6 Reasons That Make Blogs Remain Relevant In The Age Of Reels And TikTok

content writing

Blogs are the OGs of content marketing on the Internet. They have been around as long as the Internet itself.

Blogs were always considered a standard form of content. Before all the social media frenzy, they used to rule the content market. Think of any topic in any field, from art blogs to business blogs, and you will find a blog about it.

In the last few years, though, new formats like Instagram reels and TikTok videos seem to have taken over. So, there are questions about the relevance of blogs in today’s social-media-dominated world.

What are Instagram Reels?

A Reel is a video clip for up to 60 seconds that users can upload on Instagram to share their ideas and thoughts. Reels are typically used to publish creative content and promote brands.

What are TikTok Videos?

TikTok videos are up to 15-second videos shared on TikTok platforms. Just like reels, TikTok videos are used to publish mostly entertaining content and to promote brands.

While it is tough to say that any content form is superior or inferior to others, we believe different content forms will help achieve various business objectives.

In this article, we will explore why blogs continue to be relevant.

What makes Blogs Indispensable For Businesses?

There are six main factors that we believe make blogs completely indispensable for businesses:

1. Longevity

Blogs, like diamonds, are forever. While reels and TikTok videos have a brief life span, blogs last forever. The reason for such longevity is that they are discovered through search engines which keep surfacing the relevant content for the user even if the content has become slightly dated.

2. Ubiquity

Blogs can be much more ubiquitous than reels or TikTok videos. A single blog can be repurposed into Facebook posts and LinkedIn Posts and shared as a guest article on other websites. Reels and TikTok videos are platform dependent & have minimal utility outside their parent platform.

3. Content-Length Flexibility

Reels and TikTok videos have considerable constraints in terms of length and duration, so only minimal information can be given through those. Blogs can be either short form or long form, depending on the topic, and they can be used to provide a lot more information.

4. Purpose

Reels and TikTok videos are primarily created for entertainment or, at best, infotainment. At the same time, Blogs can be either informational or entertaining, or sales-focused and can help businesses achieve multiple objectives.

5. Media Flexibility

Reels and TikTok videos support only video format, while a blog can have text, images, videos, and everything. Therefore, blogs can be used to deliver the message a lot more effectively using multiple media formats.

6. Platform Independence

Reels and TikTok are restricted to Instagram and TikTok, respectively. They can only be used to target users on these platforms who are typically teenagers. Conversely, blogs can be SEO optimized to get discovered by Google across any platform.
