Creative Ways To Take Care Of Yourself And Deal With The Pandemic

Written by Srushti Palkar

The Covid-19 pandemic has ripped the world of its sanity by causing an immeasurable havoc. Health care workers, teachers and students, breadwinners and other vast number of people have been caught in this fragile bubble of unwanted circumstances.

People are on the brink of a serious breakdown ever since they’ve undergone isolation because of the pandemic, which is now directly affecting their mental health.

And likewise, this musing suggests few ways for one to overcome the quarantine blues in creative ways.

Create; People with low moods often tend to have a creative block. But it is important to exercise your mind by being creative, or moreover by being innovative.

Thus generate ideas through your imagination to create something — try baking raspberry cupcakes instead of chocolate ones. Throw your least favorite colors on the canvas and create a new sort of art. Design an outfit. Please your palette by inventing your very own recipes. Write a book, sculpt, knit or stitch.

Travel beyond your imagination. Don’t put a limit on your thoughts. Invest your time in things which make you happy.

Talk; A hearty conversation with someone close to you can help relieve your distressed emotions, other negative thoughts and feelings. Thus open up to someone who wants to have deep conversations with you and hear about all the things that go in your head.

Talk about your favourites — music, author, scent and sex. Talk about the things that keep you up at night. Talk about your flaws, your insecurities and the lies you’ve told.

Also, try identifying your problems and what troubles you the most. But make sure you don’t cloud your mind with anxiety or drown yourself into the abyss of depression. Just be with someone who listens to you when you speak your heart out.

Learn; Learn something because knowledge serves as an ultimate power.

Perhaps — learn a new language. Take up culinary or baking classes. Learn about the prehistoric art. Get to know how the pyramids were formed. Learn and practice yoga, any sport, an instrument or a new dance form. Know about the constellations smeared in our milky way.

Embrace learning and take up activities which are keen to keep you fresh and relaxed. What’s more is that learning something will help you grow.

Meditate; Meditation or yoga can be the quintessential aid which will nourish and nurture your inner peace and mindfulness. Chanting a positive mantra too can unleash troublesome and unpleasant thoughts.

Moreover, due to their wavering mood people with depression don’t desire to feel active or cheerful. Thus exercises such — a quick jog or walk in the park, aerobics, Zumba or cycling can lighten up the mood. A 15 minute workout instead of a hefty one can also make a huge difference to your physical as well as mental health.

Further, these recreational activities will brush-up your concentration, mellow down the stress, get rid of insomnia and help connect you with your true self.

Lastly, apart from all that’s been said above it is important that you breathe. Take a deep breath and know that you will be fine. Life has thrown so much at you. There were times where you were scared, but despite how things have been you’ve survived. Breathe and know that you will survive this too, because this phase is just a part of life and with time it will get better.
