Dawn | Soniya Daoo

As the night falls,

I wish for nothing but sleep. Warm and quiet.

Looking up, the cloudless sky stares back at me in melancholy

The guiding stars disappear and my mind goes astray

The pale moon seems lonely, shining gloomily above.

As I lay on my bed,

The gentle wind creepily knocks on my window,

Sending down shivers as it seeps through the gaps between.

Deep into the night, I hear voices.

I hear them, loud and clear.

Evoking my sorrowful regrets, and the worst of my mistakes,

I open my eyes in dismay,

Only to witness the demons who hid beneath my bed

The darkness around tempts them to slowly crawl up,

making me quiver in fear.

Those devouring eyes,

look nothing but full of lies.

Sickening thoughts make me go insane and

I drown into the abyss on my own blurred vision chasing the unknown.

Here I go,

Fighting those demons, yet again.

But I know for sure,

That my dark hour would end soon,

That the dawn would break at the horizon, and soon the sun would be up.

And eventually the sun rays shimmering through the window

would become my light.

The darkness would cease, so would the demons.
