Get Out Of Your Own Way

Yes, you read that right. We don’t realize but the truth is that it’s not the people outside of us, but we, who stand in the way of our growth and hamper the evolution. Anything that we do in life needs practice and perseverance. I practice spirituality (living to give, yet have nothing) and believe me, that needs persistence and practice of some sort. And every time I conduct a workshop or a yoga class, I clearly feel the lotus within me is opening, I sense the petals opening and effortlessly I am able to feel that space, where life is happening every moment. Between every IN breath and OUT breath, there is that small space, in that gap the life lives!

I am writing this today from a spiritual point of view. When I was the student (I still am and I shall continue to be a student until I go back to light) and now when I teach, one thing which is common and what I experience often, is, my encounter with the souls who

want to rapidly have divine experiences because they believe that, that is what walking the spiritual path is all about! But this kind of attitude in practice denotes impatience. We need to understand that by being impatient, we lose the broad point. The destination becomes the focus and in order to arrive there, we miss out on enjoying the panorama on the way to the goal. That journey is the point where the answers to our eternal quest are deeply rooted, therefore, a pause is imperative. That pause/halt will give us a possibility to contemplate, understand, and learn.

Hurrying the events reminds me of a journey of caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly. It is like forcing a caterpillar to open the wings strongly with our hands and when we do this, we attempt to force or to hurry the biological course of events, the wings either break or become too weak for her to fly. So, through our impatience, we flawed a life.

Long time back, I read a book called No Death, No Fear by Thich Nhat Hanh, and from that book I understood that the strategy is simple. Three-step strategy – patience, determination, and faith. I know now that, spiritual practice is like sowing seed in the mind’s eye. While sowing I make sure that the seed gets enough sunlight, water, watch it for the weeds, and let it grow in its union with nature. If we look after the seed with the simplicity of remembering when to water it more or less depending on sunshine or shade, and when to check it for weeds, the seeds will thrive into a beautiful flower in its time. It’s our love, care, and utmost faith that allows the flower to bloom. Do we dig the soil every day to check how much has it grown? No.. Right? Because we have sowed the right seed and we trust our action. In the same way, if we truly wish to thrive spiritually and have divine encounters, then we need to tend to our inner lotus with simplicity, patience, perseverance, and determination rather than troubling and poking it all the time. In simpler words, flow with nature, do your bit with faith and trust the process. Just be and let the inner lotus grow and open on its own accord with its inner and outer nature.

Just practice! No need to unlock something that we are not ready for. Understand, if we will forcefully open it and our body, mind, and soul is not ready yet we might damage it, just like trying helping the caterpillar to become a butterfly with our hands.

Simply relax and practice. Meditate. Do everything assigned without intellectualizing it, without rush, without the expectation for a divine experience to transpire. Just practice and Just BE… Be where you are, without judging. Practising in this way will allow the lotus within to open up and grow all by itself when it is the moment.
